The appearance of Saturn always is an old man with a sickle. It has something to do with Cronos in Greek.

Cronos was the father of Zeus. His father Uranus threw his children into the hell due to fearing to be usurped by his sons. Finally, Cronos took a sickle and killed his father to be the god of the heaven by accepting the request of the mother of the earth. Yet Uranus cursed him to have the same retribution.

Cronos was afraid of the prediction. So he swallowed all of the children that were born by his wife, Rhea. The only one who had escaped was Zeus. Later, Zeus really led other sons to defeat their father, Cronos and banish him.

In fact, except fearing to be usurped and doing something wrong, Cronos managed the heaven and the earth very well. His age was called Golden Age. It was a time of happiness with no pains. When he was banished, it is said that he came to Italy and guided people there to grow and create another new and beautiful land.
