The story of Leo had relation to the great hero, Hercules.

Hercules was the child of Zeus and the queen of Thebes, Alcmena. He was the most famous hero in Greek. When he was born, he was brave and daring extraordinary. He throttled two snakes which were sent to kill him by Hera.

In fact, Hercules was arduous after he was born. Originally he had great achievements and contribution by his magic power and the sacred knowledge learned from Chiron. Later he married with the princess Megara and lived happily. Yet Hera made a trick and made him losing his mind to kill his wife and child.

Then, for the last days, Hercules lived atone for his crime. He had to conquer the twelve difficult challenges which were ordered by Hera to King Eurystheus. The first one was to eliminate the anthropophagous lion in Nemea. This lion was very big and invulnerable. If you feared it, you could not kill it. The formidable Hercules tied this beast to die with his incomparable spirit and willpower. And, later, Hera made the lion becoming the constellation in the sky for appreciating its assist.

Basically, the definition of this constellation was not clear in this myth. But, as to lion which was called king of the animals, the meaning of this constellation was the manner of kings. Besides, the lion roared at times to express the remaining energy after meal. So, it also brings the way of roaring to let depression of mind off for the people with unyielding character.
