The origin of the myth was that one time Venus and Cupid were chased by the Giant, Typhon. Both they jumped into Euphrates and changed their figures into fishes to run away. To avoid washing away and dividing by the river, they used a belt to tie them. Later, for memorizing such affair, they made the figures of these two fishes becoming the constellation in the sky.
The meaning of this myth is that both Venus and Cupid are the figures of love and beauty. Venus is the goddess of beauty and Cupid is the god of love. Therefore, Pisces has relation to the beauty and the love. They represent are and emotions. As to the behavior of changing into fishes to run away, it means the behavior of shirking one's duty. They used a belt to bind themselves just because they ran away by following the trend of the river. To avoid the powerless of the fishes, the washing away by the river, they had no choice but to use a belt for connection. This means that people of Pisces often have the manner of drifting with the tide. |
